Police were first on the scene and reported that fire was out, but requested firefighter/paramedics expedite to the scene for a patient with major facial burns — apparently caused by ignition of gasoline.
The patient was found on the ground with major burns on the Lake Cook Road side of the gas station with full-body burns and an injured airway.
Paramedics transported the victim, believed to be a woman about 40 years-old, to Northwest Community Hospital via Arlington Heights Road with a police escort at about 4:25 p.m.

There is no word yet what caused the ignition of the gasoline, but police say they believe the incident involves a suicide attempt.
