Aurora firefighters responded about 9:00 p.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of Raven Drive to rescue a golden retriever named ‘Houdini’ after he had fallen into the icy water of a frozen pond.

The dog’s owner, Andrew Kapur, called 911 when he realized that his 5-year-old golden retriever Houdini had fallen into the pond behind his house. The dog had fallen into the area open water where the pond’s aerator kept circulating water from freezing, according to the fire department. The dog was unable to pull itself back onto the ice and was struggling in the water, and may have been in the water for 30 or 40 minutes.

Two firefighters donned cold water immersion suits and used an ice rescue sled to rescue ‘Houdini’ at about 9:13 p.m. The dog was insulated from the cold with an warming blanket, but did not require medical treatment.
