Ask Paul B: Teach Your Children, Please!

... #ad▼

Dear Paul B,

You wrote recently that kids should stay in and read more. My two girls do nothing but read, and they are boring, have no friends, are afraid the sky will fall. They would rather do homework and read than go out. I wish they had a social life, boyfriends, any friends. I know that I can always find them at the library—I’m sad to say that my sisters call them the Geek Girls…They are good students, but no fun at all.

Tiff

Dear Tiff,

You will find it MUCH easier to reduce their reading time, and spend some “sunshine time,” than the reverse. Kids are averse to reading and they know very little about anything today. I attended a gathering at a friends with seven or eight fourteen year olds. I asked about our Pres. candidates, and only two of these kids knew at least two of them. They didn’t seem to care about much of anything. YOUR GIRLS are smart, and becoming more intelligent as we speak. Let them learn, build their vocabulary, and prepare for college. There will be plenty of time for boys, don’t you think? You’re lucky and you don’t know it. I think YOU are the GEEK. Be careful what you wish for…
