VIDEO: Roof fire at at Fortune Kookie Restaurant on Smith St, Palatine.
Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:49 PM Tuesday to a report of a roof fire at Fortune Cookie Restaurant, 570 North Smith Street Palatine, IL. The first Palatine Fire Department crews arrived on the scene at 11:52 p.m. and reported flames on the roof and fire extending into the interior of the building.
The first fire companies pulled a hose line and aggressively attacked the fire from the exterior, while other firefighters stretched a supply line to a fire hydrant and pulled two hose lines into the building for interior attack of the fire in the front lobby and bar area. Firefighters had to force entry into the building and pulled ceiling areas throughout the restaurant to expose the fire in order to extinguish the fire.
The fire, which occurred after hours, was declared under control at 12:20 a.m. The restaurant was closed at the time of the fire and no victims were found during search of the building. Firefighters searched the building for victims even though they believed no customers or staff were present at the building at the time of the fire. No civilians or firefighters were injured in the fire.
Damage estimates are not available at the time of this release, and the fire remains under investigation by Palatine Fire Department investigators. The Palatine Health Department was requested to evaluate food and kitchen damage. The restaurant will be closed indefinitely until building repairs are complete.
The fire was fought by 24 firefighters, staffing four engines, one ladder truck, one rescue squad and three ambulances which responded to the scene along with four command officers and two Fire Investigators.
Palatine Police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.
