Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) warned of a possible active shooter at the military hospital Tuesday morning and urged those at the facility to “run, hide or fight.” It is possible that a single witness reported hearing gunshots, and that no confirmation of gunshot has occurred. At 9:30 a.m. there are no reports of injuries, no gunshot damage to the facility, no sighting of a gun, and no sighting of a shooter.
NMCSD posted the following notice to its Facebook page around 8:10 a.m. Tuesday
“**!ATTENTION!** An active shooter has just been been reported in building #26 at Naval Medical Center San Diego. All occupants are advised to run, hide or fight. All non-emergency response personnel are asked to stay away from the compound, located at 34800 Bob Wilson Drive, San Diego, CA 92134.”
There were reports of gunfire about 8:00 PM PT near or at Building 26, where other buildings and a fitness center are nearby. Building 26 is the original hospital, now known as the “Old Hospital” at NMCSD.
Schools in the area are in lockdown and some other military facilities nearby area also in lockdown.
By 8:45 a.m., a SWAT truck was seen operating at the facility.
