The Address hotel in downtown Dubai, near the Burj Khalifa, has caught on fire, the Dubai government’s media office has reported on their official Twitter account.
Flames rising up the exterior of the The Address Hotel have reached at least 20 stories. The Address Hotel is a 63-story 5-Star hotel and in 2015 is the 19th tallest building in Dubai. The fire was initially reported at 9:30 p.m. Local Time.
Early reports claim there were no injuries reported, but from the appearance of the fire, the report of “no casualties” is too early to confirm. Later 14 people reported minor injuries, and one person suffered a heart attack during evacuation.
The nearby Dubai Mall was also evacuated as a precaution.
Dubai Torch Tower — a 79-story residential building — was damaged by a spectacular fire on February 21, 2015.
Angus Villar was on the 15th floor of the burning Dubai hotel and took this photo of the next-door room on fire. He says he saw no sprinklers go off, and the alarm only sounded long after the fire had spread.
