Hoffman Estates police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:55 PM Friday to a report of a house fire in the block of 740 Maywood Lane Hoffman Estates, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that smoke was filling a house and there was a popping noise at a house on Western Street in Hoffman Estates. But police discovered that the fire was actually across the backyard at 740 Maywood Lane.
Police discovered fire coming out the back door of a house on Maywood Lane. Apparently the smoke from that fire was affecting the house on Western Street.
Firefighters found a heavily-involved basement fire and upgraded their response to a working fire response at about 11:15 p.m.

Interior firefighters led out a hose line through the front door, and worked on search and rescue. Initially it was unknown whether anyone was home, but firefighters learned several minutes later that no one was home inside the house.
Interior firefighters reported a knock on the basement fire at about 11:32 p.m. There as still a lot of smoke pushing, but firefighters reported no fire showing.
At about 11:39 p.m. firefighters reported fire showing from the front-left corner at the front of the house on the second floor. At about 11:46 p.m. firefighters reported there was considerable fire still burning in the basement.
At about 11:49 p.m. fire command considering hitting the fire in the front-left corner with a heavy stream from outside, but did not assign that operation because the interior crew was in the basement in that location.
A secondary search of the second floor was declared all clear by about 11:51 p.m. Immediately after the second floor was given the all clear with a search, the first floor was also given the all clear with a search for victims.
Firefighters were pulling down ceiling, venting the fire, and checking for extension by about 11:53 p.m.
Firefighters recycled crews and eventually had the fire under control at about 11:58 p.m.
An all clear secondary search of the basement was declared by about midnight.
Firefighters received confirmation that police contacted the homeowner by 12:07 a.m. and learned that no one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
No firefighters were reported injured as of 12:10 a.m.
