Rolling Meadows firefighter/paramedics and Illinois State Police troopers responded about 3:32 PM Saturday to a vehicle fire on Northbound Route 53 just south of Kirchoff Rd Rolling Meadows, IL. Firefighter/paramedics received a report that the driver escaped his Ford minivan before it was a fully-engulfed fire. Witnesses on Route 53 reported that the driver got out of the Ford minivan that was on fire. The engine compartment was fully-engulfed with fire and heavy smoke was pushing across lanes of traffic on Route 53, according to a witness.
Rolling Meadows Fire Department’s Battalion Chief 15 upon arrival reported a confirmed vehicle fire.
BC15 reported “fire out” and no injuries on scene at 3:45 p.m.
Northbound Route 53 traffic was still backed up to I-90 at 4:20 PM, but the backup length was diminishing by 4:25 pm.
