Apple iPhone users are reporting and complaining on Twitter that Apple has deployed pop-up ads recommending they upgrade their iPhone. Just before Christmas, there are multiple reports on Twitter and Reddit of full-screen ads appearing when users open the App Store. The white-styled ad shows pictures of the iPhone 6S with the tagline “ridiculously powerful,” offering options to skip, “learn more,” or “upgrade now.”
Users are reporting they noticed the ad after upgrading to iOS 9.2 on an iPhone 5S or older. Aggravating, but amusing, at least one person on Twitter reports the iPhone 6S ad was displayed while using an iPhone 6S.
The new ad practice comes at a time when Apple is touting an ad-blocking feature with Safari that prevents display of web page ads, which are a revenue source model for many websites and blogs.
Is Apple going too far with the new #iPhone6S ad it's pushing on App Store users? https://t.co/dRAWlBbFfs pic.twitter.com/5qKLiiR7V1
