Arlington Heights Fire Department responded about 6:49 PM Saturday to a report of smoke filling a house from the fireplace at 2602 North Drury Lane Arlington Heights, IL. Firefighters on the scene from Engine 4’s crew reported the flue damper was open with a fire in the fireplace, but the chimney was not drawing air. Firefighters ventilated the home.
In Chicago, firefighters from Truck 3’s crew reported smoke showing from the first floor of an apartment building at 827 North Dearborn Parkway, and went in to investigate. In the same minute as the Arlington Heights progress report at 6:53 p.m., Battalion 1 from Chicago reported that crews discovered smoke filled the residence after the flue damper was left closed while a fire was burning in the fireplace.
Chicago firefighters also ventilated the living space.
