Tomorrow is the deadline for Prospect Heights Fire Protection District, which is accepting applications for part-time membership as firefighter/paramedics. Requirements include certification as a Fire Fighter 2 or Basic Operations Firefighter and valid license from the Illinois Department of Public Health as an EMT-Paramedic.
In order to be considered for part-time membership (employment) with the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District (PHFPD), the following minimum requirements must be met. The requirements include, but are not limited to:
Be at least 21 years of age.
Be in good physical condition and mental health and able to perform strenuous manual labor.
Be of good moral character and not had any serious criminal activity history as determined by a background investigation conducted by the PHFPD.
Possess a valid non-CDL class B Driver License issued by the state in which the applicant resides. Paramedics who do not possess a non-CDL class B license may be hired with the condition of employment that they obtain this license.
Be a High School graduate or possess a GED certificate.
Be an U.S. citizen or possess work authorization from the U.S. Department of Immigration and Naturalization.
Possess certification from the Office of the State Fire Marshal:
Fire Fighter 2 or Basic Operations Firefighter
Hazardous Materials First Responder or Operations
Technical Rescue Awareness
Provisional Fire Service Vehicle Operator
Possess a current, valid license from the Illinois Department of Public Health as an EMT-Paramedic.
Upon offer of employment, obtain and maintain for duration of employment approval to function within the Northwest Community EMS System.
If not employed full-time by another fire department or fire protection district, successfully complete the Candidate Physical Ability Test – CPAT. Contract employees are not considered to be employed full time by another FD or FPD.
Upon acceptance pass a psychological evaluation, physical examination, and drug screen.

Paid-On Call (POC) Employment Information for entry Level with no firefighting experience necessary is also considered.
In order to be considered for Paid-On-Call (POC) membership (employment) with the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District (PHFPD), the following minimum requirements must be met. The requirements include, but are not limited to:
Be at least 18 years of age.
Reside within approximately ten (10) miles of the fire station.More importantly, meet performance requirements of fire district. Persons living more than ten (10) miles will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Be in good physical condition and mental health and able to perform strenuous manual labor.

Be of good moral character and not had any serious criminal activity history as determined by a background investigation conducted by the PHFPD using fingerprint submission to the Illinois State Police and FBI and request for Drivers License Abstract from the Secretary of State.
Possess a valid class D Driver’s License issued by the state in which the applicant resides.
Be a High School graduate or possess a GED certificate.
Be an U.S. citizen or possess work authorization from the U.S. Department of Immigration and Naturalization.
Possess a valid and current EMT-B or paramedic license from the IDPH.
Possess proof of completion within the 12 months prior to application of the Candidate Physical Ability Test – CPAT. NOTE: At time of job offer the applicant must be in possession of a valid CPAT card or certificate.

The Recruit Training Program (RTP) of the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District is a mandatory requirement for all persons accepted for membership as a Paid-On-Call Firefighter. The course begins January 11, 2016 and ends March 25, 2016. This is a formal, structured training academy meeting every day, Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. for eleven (11) weeks. The sessions meet in both Prospect Heights and Glenview and consist of both classroom lectures and hands-on drills that cover all material in the State Fire Marshal’s Basic Operations Firefighter. After completion the new member will sit for the State Fire Marshal’s Basic Operations Firefighter exam. This is an unpaid education and the applicant who is appointed is required to sign a tuition reimbursement agreement.
ALL REQUIRED TRAINING TO BECOME A PAID-ON-CALL FIREFIGHTERS IS UNCOMPENSATED – NO WAGES ARE PAID DURING THE TRAINING PERIOD.
COMPLETED APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN 4:00 P.M.
