Press Conference: Male Shooter, Age 20, at Umpqua Community College Was “Neutralized” and Killed When Encountered by Police

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin gives an update on the shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

In a press conference at 1:42 p.m. PT Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin reported that law enforcement responded to a report of an active shooter, encountered the shooter, and neutralized the shooter.

The shooter was only described as a male, and the shooter was neutralized and killed by the initial responding officers.

Sheriff Hanlin only confirmed that there were fatalities and injuries. No count of victims was announced at the press conference.

The shooter is described as a 20-year-old male, according Kate Brown, Oregon Governor.

The Oregon State Police has set up a command center, a media staging area, and a family unification center, according to police.
