Fox Lake police and multiple law enforcement agencies responded about 8:11 AM Tuesday to a report of an “officer down” believed to have been shot near 128 Honing Rd Fox Lake, IL. Police responded to the report of an “officer down” and discovered a police officer shot. The police officer is reported to have been killed after being shot.
The police officer that was killed was involved in a foot pursuit and was discovered by another police officer responding as backup, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Det. Chris Covelli.
The offenders fled with the officer’s gun and pepper spray.

Police were immediately searching for three suspects — one white male and one black male and a third subject with unknown description. Multiple helicopters and K9 units are tracking and searching the area. All airspace was restricted in a one mile radius from Honing and Sayton. No news helicopters were allowed within a one-mile radius of the crime scene.
Rollins Road between Washington Avenue and Route 59 was closed where the crime scene is just southwest of Rolling Road.
Service on the Milwaukee District North Line was shut down in both directions Tuesday morning.
Schools in the area were placed on soft lockdown. The crime scene is about 2,000 feet west of Grant Community High School and Stanton School — both schools were immediately placed under a soft lockdown. Other schools in the area are also under soft lockdown.
