American Airlines grounded flights at three of their busiest airports after a technical glitch Thursday afternoon. Flights resumed around 2:15 after what American Airlines is calling “connectivity” issues.
All domestic flights departing from Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare and Miami had been halted. Federal Aviation Administration first reported the outage reporting that the cause of the ground stop was “airline issues.” American Airlines tweeted the problem at DFW, ORD and MIA was related to connectivity issues when they announced the problem was resolved.
United Airlines experienced two outages last summer — one related to a problem with a computer router.
American is in the process of combining the reservation systems with its US Airways subsidiary. After the merge in December 2013, the US Airways brand is expected to be dropped sometime in October 2015.
The outage problems of both airlines may have been related to combining the separate reservation systems.
