Rockford firefighters responded about 9:48 a.m. to a fire in a high-rise at the Rockford Trust building, 202 West State Street. The building just west of the Rock River had smoke showing from the 11th floor upon arrival of firefighters.
Heavy fire on the fifth floor was reported, but firefighters extinguished the fire within about 20 minutes.
No injuries were reported, but one firefighter was evaluated for heat exhaustion.
The building, which was designed by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham, is undergoing renovation and conversion from an office building to an apartment building.
