Storms developed in the entire northern Illinois area, but the strongest storms hit southwest Chicagoland. Brief tornado touchdowns were reported near Cornell, Illinois at 4:30 p.m. and near Pontiac, Illinois at 5:00 p.m., but the rural areas reported no structural damage. “Funnel clouds” were reported in Streator, Lexington, Seneca, Joliet and Crest Hill. The storm direction took a southwest to northeast path and eventually hit most of eastern Cook County hitting eastern Cook County and near north suburbs of Chicago. So far no injuries have been reported areawide by tornadoes in Chicagoland yesterday.

A house fire in Darien on Pine View Court near Lake View Drive about 8:00 p.m. Tuesday was caused by lightning, according to neighbors who saw lightning hit, and then immediately saw flames coming out of the attic. No injuries were reported, but the fire caused significant damage even though firefighters were able to stop the fire with a quick, effective response.

Wednesday morning after the storms, most power outages that persist show a path from Streator to Joliet to Bolingbrook to Downers Grove to Maywood to Lincolnwood and Skokie.

About 2,500 people are without power Wednesday morning in the following communities as summarized from the various sizes of power outages from the ComEd outage map:

Stickney
Western Springs
Bolingbrook
Lisle
Downers Grove
Oak Brook and Hinsdale
Elmhurst
Lemont
Riverdale
Dolton
Harvey
Phoenix

Elmwood Park
East Garfield Park Neighborhood of Chicago
Fulton Market Neighborhood of Chicago
Rogers Park Neighborhood of Chicago

Schaumburg also had an outage involving over 200 customers about 5:30 a.m., but electricity was restored by 7:30 a.m.

A power outage in Arlington Heights about 9:00 p.m. affecting about 500 ComEd customers was likely related to damage caused by a storm that hit Arlington Heights and north suburbs Monday afternoon that was affected by new winds, lightning and rain on Tuesday night.
