Old Buffalo Road was reopened between Hintz Road and Buffalo Grove Road about 12:30 p.m. after a gas leak was plugged by a Nicor crew. Parts of the apartment parking lot may be blocked while crews continue to work on repairing a gas line that was broken by landscaping equipment about 10:39 a.m. Wednesday.
Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:39 AM Wednesday to a gas leak 681 Old Buffalo Grove Road Wheeling, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a gas leak. Upon arrival Engine 23 crew discovered a gas line was hit.
At about 10:47 a.m. Wheeling Engine 23 crew upgraded the call for more more personnel for assistance with evacuation. Police and firefighters were evacuating residents in the immediate area by 10:50 a.m.

Neighbors in the area could expect to smell a strong odor. Wind is calm and has been from the northwest, but is forecast to be from the East Northeast at 7-10 MPH this afternoon.
Wheeling’s fire chief reported variable wind conditions, and requested weather updates every 15 minutes.
The gas line hit is located near townhomes. A loud hissing noise could be hear from the broken line.
Nicor was immediately requested to respond to the scene.
