A police officer was fatally shot during a traffic stop in Memphis and a manhunt is underway for the suspect, Tennessee police reported Sunday.
Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong reported during a news conference that police were alerted about 9:18 p.m. Saturday that an officer had been shot multiple times during a traffic stop. A civilian used the stricken officer’s police radio to notify police about the shooting.
With a police escort, police officer Officer Sean Bolton, 33, was rushed in critical condition to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police had a person of interest in custody by Sunday morning, but no details about the person have been released. The shooter was at large immediately after shooting.
