Former President Jimmy Carter answers questions about the breadth of his cancer in Atlanta.
Former President Jimmy Carter went to the doctor for a bad cold when doctors found a cancerous growth in his liver during a complete physical, including an MRI. The growth and surrounding tissue was removed, which amounted to about one-tenth of the former president’s liver.
A biopsy confirmed that the growth was malignant melanoma, so physicians searched with an additional MRI — suspecting that the growth started at another location in the body. Four very small spots — about 2 mm — of melanoma were found on the brain. Radiation treatment for the former president starts today.
Former President Jimmy Carter describes how he thought he only had a few weeks left.
