A bomb reported to targeting foreigners visiting in Thailand was detonated at about 7:00 p.m. local time (12:00 GMT). Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwong reported the bomb, “was a TNT bomb … the people who did it targeted foreigners and to damage tourism and the economy.” The bomb was possibly placed in a motorcycle.
Early report has summarized the death toll at 27 with three tourists or foreigner among the dead.
The Erawan Shrine is a Hindu shrine that houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of the Hindu creation god Brahma. Almost all Hindu religious rites involve prayer to Brahmā, very few temples are dedicated worship Brahmā — about 20 or less worldwide.
CNN analyst Bobby Ghosh comments on the reports of an explosion at the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok, Thailand and states that the timing of the bomb for maximum damage to maximize the visibility and the number of victims killed.
