VIDEO: Rollover extrication crash on Wilke Road south of Rand Road behind Walter E. Smythe near retention pond.
Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:55 PM Wednesday to a report of a rollover crash with injuries on Wilke Road south of the intersection of Wilke Road and Rand Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a vehicle crash involved a rollover, and pay have “flown off the highway” Route 53.
Police were first on the scene and reported a vehicle off the road on its side behind Walter E. Smythe. The car was on its driver’s side with the driver still inside the vehicle near the edge of trees, cattails and a retention pond.
The driver was the only occupant in the car, but police and firefighters searched brush in the retention pond are to confirm that no other person was ejected from the vehicle, or that a second vehicle wasn’t involved in the crash.
The patient was extricated from the car and removed through the broken windshield at about 12:21 a.m.
The patient was transported to Northwest Community Hospital — not confirmed.
The driver was apparently northbound on Wilke Road and lost control of the vehicle on a curve and continued straight into a rough area of cattails, brush and trees near a retention. The vehicle apparently went airborne and either cartwheeled or barrel rolled to its stopping point.
The driver was wearing a seat belt and likely would have not survived without the seatbelt.
