Bartlett police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:49 PM Friday to a report of a plane crash into a forest preserve north of a house at 1390 Newcastle Lane Bartlett, IL . Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report from a caller that a Cessna small aircraft crashed near the bike path in the Hawk Hollow Forest Preserve north of Newcastle Lane. The aircraft was possibly a Cessna 172.

The caller reported gray smoke coming from the plane. Firefighters on the scene reported no visible flames at the aircraft when they arrived.
Only the pilot was on board the aircraft, and he was found dead at the scene.
A DUCOMM 9-1-1 public safety communication dispatcher spoke with DuPage Airport control tower personnel, who reported the pilot may have been having trouble with the rudder of the aircraft, and that the pilot was trying to turn back to the airport. The Dupage Airport control tower also reported that the pilot was not answering after the initial communication about the rudder.
