Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:17 AM Saturday to a report of a vehicle fire with a person trapped inside 1727 Locust Place Schaumburg, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a vehicle was on fire on the top level of a parking deck.
About 4:20 a.m. it was reported that a person was inside the vehicle that was on fire. The first responders received a report that the person escaped the vehicle, and then the vehicle “exploded.”
About 4:22 p.m. callers reported at least three vehicles were on fire. In total five vehicles were burned — either destroyed or seriously damaged.
Firefighters requested an additional fire engine at about 4:23 a.m.
A witness at the scene said the driver of a pickup truck crashed into vehicles parked on the top level of the park level. The witness said he believed the driver was drunk.
Police would not confirm a drunk driving arrest, but did report that no one was injured.
