Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources officials are referring all mountain lion questions to the Milwaukee Police Department after two recent reports of a mountain lion sighting. One of the witnesses captured an image that looks like a mountain lion.
Police Chief Ed Flynn said his officers have seen the video and are actively investigating the reports.
Mountain lions are also known as cougars. They are active mostly at night or during twilight hours.
Transient male cougars have been verified in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan (Upper Peninsula) Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin
A cougar was shot and killed in the Roscoe Neighborhood within the city limits of Chicago by police in April 2008. People had also reported sighting a cougar in Wilmette shortly before the cougar was killed in Chicago.
A cougar was also reported near Chicago Bears Headquarters in Lake Forest near the Conway Farms subdivision in October 2011.
A large cat was also reported in Mount Prospect near Elmhurst Road and Dempster Street in February 2012.
