Chicago police and Illinois State Police and Chicago firefighters and paramedics responded about 8:00 AM Friday to a report of a shooting from one vehicle to another on the inbound Eisenhower Expressway between Austin Avenue and Central Avenue, Chicago, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a male/black subject was shooting from the back seat of an SUV — possibly a Jeep on the inbound Eisenhower Expressway near Central Avenue.

The minivan received at least six hits from bullets in the windshield. A passenger window was also shattered. The driver was able to exit the Eisenhower Expressway after being shot between Austin Boulevard and Central Avenue. The driver stopped near Maypole Avenue and Cicero Avenue.

Chicago Fire Department paramedics responded to an address on Maypole Avenue.

The driver was the only person in the Pontiac minivan. He was transported to Level I Trauma Center Mt. Sinai Hospital with two gunshot wounds in the body and one gunshot wound in the head. The extent of injuries were not available at the time of this report.

Illinois State Police revealed that the shooting suspect may have been wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.

Illinois State Police troopers found shell casings on the expressway.

Last Tuesday night July 28, 2015, police responded about 9:40 p.m. to a report of shots fired from a vehicle in the outbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway between Independence Boulevard and Cicero Avenue. Police closed the Eisenhower Expressway until about 11:00 p.m. and re-opened lanes after no shell casings were found.

On Monday June 1, 2015 Illinois State police responded about 8:15 p.m. to a 9-1-1 call reporting that six or seven shots were fired, and that one vehicle apparently swerved out of the way of the shots. Gunfire was possibly exchanged between two cars, or one car was entirely at the receiving end of the fired shots. The incident was initially reported to have occurred near Central Park Boulevard.

In the same time period of the shooting this morning in an apparent unrelated incident, a driver of a blue older model Jaguar fled from police on a traffic stop on northbound I-94 “exit at Canalport.”
