Hoffman Estates police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:09 AM Wednesday to a report of a power outage with smoke coming from vents and a plastic burning smell at a St. Alexius Medical Center Doctors Building, 1585 North Barrington Road Hoffman Estates, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report from a doctor’s suite in Doctor’s Building #2 at St. Alexius Medical Center.
Hoffman Estates police first on the scene discover a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole and transformer supplying electricity to the doctors building.
The person in the vehicle crash was initially reported to be uninjured, but one person was eventually transported to the scene to the St. Alexius Medical Center Emergency Room.
Firefighters upon arrival reported no smoke showing, but during an interior investigation of conditions discovered the smell of smoke and a light haze.
The smoke had stopped, and firefighters were working to ventilate the building by 10:26 a.m. Firefighters used fans to ventilate the building.
Firefighter/paramedics were also deciding whether they needed to evacuate patients from the building. Apparently, no major evacuation was necessary.
Firefighters discovered that the transformer that was hit by the vehicle supplied three or four buildings at the St. Alexius Medical Center complex.
