Illinois State police responded about 8:15 p.m. Monday to a 9-1-1 call reporting that six or seven shots were fired, and that one vehicle apparently swerved out of the way of the shots. Gunfire was possibly exchanged between two cars, or one car was entirely at the receiving end of the fired shots. The incident was initially reported to have occurred near Central Park Boulevard.
Police shut down the outbound lanes (westbound lanes) of the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) on the Chicago’s West Side near Kostner Avenue. Police were searching for shell casings and other evidence. At 10 p.m., all westbound traffic was being diverted off the expressway at Kostner Avenue and a traffic backup and traffic congestion extended back to about Western Avenue or Damen Avenue.
