Buffalo Grove police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:18 PM Monday to a report of a house fire at 2000 Wright Boulevard Buffalo Grove, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that lightning struck a house, and damaged the garage door, “trashed” the front yard, and caused “lots of debris” in the area.
Residents reported no smoke was visible after initially seeing smoke. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters upon arrival reported “nothing showing” at 12:22 p.m. Then firefighters reported that residents reported there was a fire in the home at 12:28 p.m.
Buffalo Grove Battalion Chief upgraded the fire call to a working fire response, which brought firefighters from Arlington Heights, Deerfield, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Long Grove to the scene.
Firefighters from Countryside, Mount Prospect, Palatine, and Rolling Meadows responded for station coverage to Buffalo Grove fire stations.
Meanwhile firefighters on the scene used a thermal image camera and discovered a hot spot behind a wall near the attached garage. Firefighters removed the wall and discovered smoldering insulation and burned wires. The fire was extinguished and was reported “knocked” by 12:49 p.m.
The lightning strike blast caused the garage door to buckle and shattered windows.
