UPDATE (9:00 PM) …

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:17 PM Monday to a report of a child hit by a car near Palatine Road and Winston Drive Palatine, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a child was hit by a vehicle. Police on scene reported the injured victim was in the westbound lanes of Palatine Road.

VIDEO: Accident reconstruction investigation after a 5-year-old was hit by a car on eastbound Palatine Road between Winston Drive and Route 53.

The vehicle that apparently hit the pedestrian — a silver 2006 Hyundai Sonata — came to a stop in the inside eastbound lane of Palatine Road. The Sonata was driven by a 53-year-old man from Bartlett.

The injured victim — a 5-year-old boy — was transported with life-threatening injuries to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

Police blocked westbound Palatine Road between Winston Drive in Palatine and Kennicott Ave in Arlington Heights, and police blocked eastbound Palatine Road between Winston Drive and Route 53 for an extended accident investigation.

Westbound Palatine Road was backed up and congested to about Schoenbeck Road or Route 83 and points east.

Police were working the extended accident investigation/accident reconstruction operation until at least 815 p.m. Monday.
