VIDEO: Vehicle vs bicyclist crash at Golf Road and New Wilke Road Rolling Meadows
A bicyclist that was reported seriously injured Friday afternoon was pronounced dead at Northwest Community Hospital at 1:27 p.m. Friday. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Konrad Tomasik, age 47, was the victim of a fatal crash at Golf Road and New Wilke Road.
Rolling Meadows police and Arlington Heights and Rolling Meadows firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:00 PM Friday to a report of a bicycle and car crash with injuries at Golf Road and New Wilke Road, Rolling Meadows, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that the victim on the bicycle was unconscious. People stopped to help perform CPR for Tomasik.
Arlington Heights Fire Department firefighter/paramedics assigned to Ambulance 3 arrived first and reported that a man was down in the street with bystanders performing CPR. Tomasik was rushed to Northwest Community Hospital with his life-threatening injuries in the Arlington Heights rescue ambulance.

Accident investigation was immediately underway. Police were immediately interviewing witnesses at the scene. While police did not comment on the cause of the crash, it appeared the bicyclist may have been northbound in the crosswalk on the west side of the intersection, while a black Scion hatchback may have been eastbound at the intersection. As observed at the scene, the black Scion hatchback was stopped about 400 feet east of the location where the bicycle came to rest at the west side of the intersection.
was described by family as a man who enjoyed watching movies, listening to techno and rock music, and enjoyed going for nature rides on his bike. He may have been returning from Busse Woods to his home in Arlington Heights when he was hit by the vehicle. Tomasik was born in Lodz, Poland and immigrated to Chicago during his teens. He is described as a gentle soul with a kind personality.
Visitation is 1:00 PM Today until services at 7:00 PM at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 West Central Road, Mount Prospect, Illinois.
