Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:15 PM Sunday to and activated fire alarm Dunton Tower, 55 South Vail Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of an activated fire alarm at Dunton Tower while they were already working on a small fire at Dana Point Condominiums on East Central Road.

Firefighters entering Dunton Tower found smoke on the first floor by the garbage chute and then reported a fire in the garbage chute.

Palatine and Mount Prospect firefighters were already responding with ladder tower trucks when the fire was confirmed. An automatic sprinkler system extinguished much of the fire, and firefighters finished extinguishing the fire with either a hose line or pump cans. The fire was declared extinguished by about 1:56 p.m.

Firefighter/paramedics also checked on upper floors and in stairwells to search for smoke inhalation victims. No injuries were reported.

There was considerable water that required mop up on the first floor of the garbage chute, the mechanical room, and the rear door area.

Mount Prospect, Palatine and Rolling Meadows firefighters assisted Arlington Heights firefighters at the scene, while Prospect Heights firefighters assisted with standby at an Arlington Heights fire station.
