Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:55 AM Sunday to a report of smoke in a hallway at Shalamar East Apartments 2206 S Goebbert Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report from several callers that smoke was in the hallway.
Firefighters discovered the source of the fire and smoke in the garbage chute. Engine 3 crew interior reported they could handle the fire by 12:01 p.m..
Extra companies are returning.
The dumpster was rolled outside and fire extinguished. A resident wrapped up burning charcoal from a grill, and tossed the burning charcoal down the chute.
