After Simon Group officials submitted their $13.9 million plans for an anticipated renovation of Schaumburg’s Woodfield Mall shopping center to Village of Schaumburg officials, they revealed renderings and additional details of the plans today. The plans revealed show a brighter, cleaner, more futuristic look.

The renovations involve …
• Futuristic glass railing will replace bricks walls that block sight lines.
• New white square ceramic flooring
• Upgrades to seating areas
• New carpet on the upper levels
* Improved, directional signs
• Majority of the work will be on the first floor or main floor
* The work beginning immediately, but gradual steps and minimal effects on shoppers
History
Woodfield opened with 59 stores on September 9, 1971
Lord & Taylor opened along with 50 additional new retailers in a new wing in 1973. Woodfield Mall was the largest shopping mall in the United States in 1973.
Twenty-three stores were added in 1991 — the 20-year anniversary.
The Nordstrom store and a new wing that included a larger Lord & Taylor opened in 1996.
Improv Comedy Club opened in 2006.
Management of Woodfield mall by Taubman Centers was taken over by Simon Property Group on January 1, 2013.
2015 Construction
Construction can begin at any time as a construction permit for the project has already been issued by the Village of Schaumburg. Village Board approval is not necessary because the construction plans do not involved expansion.
