Elgin police responded about 1:06 a.m. Saturday in the block of 700 Elma Avenue to a report of a home invasion with an intruder that shot a resident, who was inside a home when someone entered and confronted him with a shotgun. The resident was shot in his hands, chest and face, police said.
Witnesses at the scene said a the gunshot victim left the home, and minutes later police were notified that the victim had been driven to the lobby of the Elgin Police Department by the homeowner.
The victim was then transported to Presence St. Joseph Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police report that the incident did not appear to be random.
Elgin police are asking that citizens with information about the incident to call police at 847-289-2600 or the anonymous tip line at 847-695-4195.
