Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:10 PM Saturday to a report of a an explosion in the block of 500 South Ridge Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a resident saw a flash of light and heard an explosion south of the address.

Crew from Tower 1 assigned to investigate a flash of light and explosion reported in the area of South Ridge Avenue and Fairview Street.
A loud explosion was also heard in north central Arlington Heights at about 7:10 p.m.
At about the same time period a car crashed into a light pole at Mount Prospect Road and Touhy Avenue. ComEd was working to restore power in the area of Golf Road and Meier Road. About 246 customers were reported without power in the area just east of Golf Road and Goebbert Road.
At the time of this report it was unknown if the power failure at Golf Road and Meier Road involved an explosion of a transformer, or if the power failure was connected to the crash on Mount Prospect and Touhy Avenue.
No power outage was reported near Mount Prospect Road and Touhy Avenue as of 7:50 p.m.
No power outage was reported near Ridge Avenue and Fairview Street.
Another witness reported seeing a large flash in the western sky about 5:20 p.m., but no boom. The flash was high in the sky and was witnessed near Kensington Road and Dryden near Mariano’s.
Recently, meteors have been known to cause sonic booms over Wales in August 2012 and a meteor or superbolide explosion over Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia in February 2013.
