CNN Analyzes Police, Soldiers As Terrorist Targets

From Paris to Belgium to the U.S., CNN’s Kyung Lah takes a closer look at the increasing threat of police and armed guards targeted by terrorists.

As examples, CNN outlines the recent Charlie Hebdo-related attack on police in Paris, the May 2013 machete attack by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale that killed British Army soldier Lee Rigby in London, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau’s fatal shooting of sentry soldier Corporal Nathan Cirillo ing at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and Zale Thompson’s hatchet attack on two NYPD police officers in October 2014.

The CNN video did not mention the Fort Hood attack by Nidal Malik Hasan that killed 13 people and injured more than 30. The United States Department of Defense and federal law enforcement agencies have classified the shootings as an act of workplace violence, even though Joint Terrorism Task Force awareness, and NSA monitoring revealed a series of emails between Nidal Malik Hasan and the now-deceased imam Anwar al-Awlaki. The imam was killed by drone attack in Yemen on September 30, 2011.

From 2001 to 2002 al-Awlaki was imam at a mosque in Falls Church, Virginia, which had 3,000 members. Anwar al-Awlaki was known to have associated with three of the 9/11 hijackers, who were al-Qaeda members.
