Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:21 PM Thursday to a report of a house fire on Belmont Avenue near the intersection of Belmont Avenue and Miner Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a fire in a second floor bedroom. The homeowners reported early that they believed they extinguished the fire.
Firefighters arrived and reported nothing showing from the exterior. Firefighters brought out a smoking mattress from a second floor bedroom. The fire was contained by the resident before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters were investigating whether a plug malfunctioned near an outlet near the mattress. Using a FLIR (infrared) camera, firefighters checked for fire extension and heat behind the wall, but did not find any.
Another crew extinguished the smoking mattress with a pump can outside.
No injuries were reported.
