Chicago police and Chicago firefighters and paramedics responded about 7:50 p.m. Friday to a report of an attempted armed robbery in the block of 1300 West Albion Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood.
Apparently there was a struggle by the victim for the gun believed to be a fake gun, but the gun was real and the victim was shot in the chest and head.
The victim was a Loyola University student from Pakistan. Two attackers tried to rob Mutahir Rauf of the 1400 block of West Pratt Boulevard and his brother. Rauf, age 23, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:08 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Rauf’s brother was not injured.
