Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the building was a 7-story apartment building under construction, and involved a 1.3-million square-foot structure. The fire spread — apparently by radiant heat — to a 16-story high-rise across the street at 221 North Figueroa. The fire damage three floors of the high-rise and brought water damage to 14 floors.
The Los Angeles Health Department building at 331 North Figueroa also received radiant heat damage on three floors.
The fire closed parts of Freeway 110 and Freeway 101 early Monday while more than 250 firefighters battled the extra-alarm fire. Wood framing was burning on the concrete apartment building.
