USMC Cpl. Steven Kwiatkowski received a surprise welcome home Friday while he was out to breakfast at Honeyberry Cafe, 306 East Rand Road in Arlington Heights.
Cpl. Steven Kwiatkowski just arrived home from military service and was celebrating his mother’s birthday with family when he was greeted by members of the Warriors Watch Riders motorcycle club. The Warriors Watch Riders announced they were escorting him, his mother and his group to a secret location.
The secret location was Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights, where Kwiatkowski graduated in 2010, and where a group of cheering students and Marine Corps veterans were waiting outside the school on the grand steps of Grace Gym.
Inside more children were waving US flags and cheering for him. Faculty member Bob Stack introduced Kwiatkowski to the crowd. thanked everyone for the warm welcome.
State Representative Tom Morrison was also present to greet Cpl Steven Kwiatkowski.
The school choir sang the Marine’s Hymn (From The Halls of Montezuma) to close the ceremony.
Cpl. Steven Kwiatkowski plans on attending Olivet Nazarene University to study to become a history teacher. His father Pastor Phillip Kwiatkowski gave an inspiring message about the need today in the world for living courage, not just recognition of courage in history. He praised his son as an example of living courage for choosing to fight as U.S. marine.
