Police in Lake County were involved in a chase with a stolen vehicle late Thursday and early Friday that involved a crash, a second vehicle stolen, the ramming of a police blockade and the shooting of the offender.
The chase started about 11:30 p.m. in Lake Villa and ended about 12:30 a.m. near Third Lake. Lake Villa police discovered a reported stolen vehicle being driven by a man and began a pursuit. The man fled and a short time later crashed and flipped over on Route 45 between Dada Drive and Rollins Road.

The driver of the stolen vehicle got out of the wrecked stolen car. and stole a pickup truck and fled again. Police tracked the stolen truck and set up a blockade, which the offender rammed. The offender was stopped and shot at the wreck at the road block, but the offender still managed to continue into Grayslake where another crash occurred — this time head-on into a passenger car at about 12:30 a.m.

The driver of the pickup truck — the second stolen vehicle — ran into the woods following the crash, but was found and transported to a hospital in custody.
The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force and the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County is investigating the crashes and the pursuit, and the police-involved shooting.
