A pilot is dead after losing control and crashed into a suburban Chicago home with two occupants inside. The homeowners were found unharmed at the scene.
Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:48 a.m. Tuesday to a plane crash at 6511 South Knox Avenue. The aircraft crashed just after takeoff from runway 13C (Runway 13C/31C) in a northwest-to-southwest direction.
Firefighters first on the scene reported that a small aircraft crashed into a 1 1/2 story home. The crash site is located about three blocks east and two blocks south of Runway 13C/31C at Midway International Airport. Two residents in the home escaped with the help of a neighbor and are reported to be safe. Firefighters were searching for the pilot — believed to be the only person onboard the aircraft.
