Former CBS investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson joins Larry King on Politicking with Larry King with her personal story of harassment, intimidation & spying by the federal government and about the media bosses who allow government spin to weaken the press’s freedom (29:14).
In May 2013, while employed at CBS, Sharyl Attkisson alleged that her personal and work computers had been “compromised” for more than two years. She also stated that her computer had monitoring software on her computer, that unknown offenders had remote access to her computer, and that an unknown cable was attached to the network interface at her residence. Attkisson says the software was known to be proprietary to one of four government agencies, according to a forensics report.
The U.S. Department of Justice denied any involvement.
Her book, Stonewalled, is her story of the Obama administration’s efforts to monitor journalists, intimidate and harass opposition groups, and spy on private citizens. But it is also a searing indictment of the timidity of the press and the dangerous decline of investigative journalism and unbiased truth telling in America today.
Attkisson’s investigative journalism work included Benghazi and the Fast and Furious gun-running operation.
Attkisson warns people and discerning viewers to look for certain classifications or keywords (crank, paranoid, nutty, pseudo) attached to reporters if political “cloaked” special interests are attacking the news topic or the reporter. She says if the discernible viewer hears these words it sometimes means that “something is there.”
Larry King is now host of Larry King Now on Hulu and RT America Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings. Larry King also hosts “Politicking with Larry King,” a weekly political talk show Thursday evenings on RT America.
