Wheeling firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:58 AM Thursday to a report of a gas odor at Hintz Road and Mallard Wheeling, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a gas line was cut in the area of Hintz Road and Lakeview Drive.
Wheeling firefighters described the leak as a very substantial leak, and requested that Nicor expedite.
Arlington Heights firefighters were also dispatched to the area of Windsor Drive and Hintz Road to investigate a strong gas odor. They determined the source of the gas odor was the Wheeling incident.
Arlington Heights and Wheeling police blocked Hintz Road near Lakeview Drive between Windsor Drive and Schoenbeck Road.
Initially no evacuations were ordered, but residents and businesses should be alert to changes in the area. Wind at 9:52 a.m. was reported to be from the West at 5 mph and is expected to shift from the southwest this afternoon.
