UPDATE: A man was killed in a head-on crash when his black Chevy HHR crashed head-on into a parked flatbed semi-trailer truck that was parked on the northwestbound shoulder of Old McHenry Road. The Chevy HHR was southeastbound on Old McHenry Road when it crossed over oncoming lanes and hit the truck head on.
The unresponsive driver, identified as Mark M. Howard, age 58, was extricated and removed out the driver’s side rear passenger door while firefighters extinguished a fire that started in an engine compartment. The victim was in traumatic cardiac arrest at the scene, and was rushed to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Long Grove firefighter/paramedics and Lake County Sheriff’s police responded about 12:58 PM Wednesday to a head-on crash and a car on Old McHenry Road north of the intersection of Cuba Road and McHenry Road Long Grove, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a semi-trailer truck crashed with a car on Old McHenry Road north of Cuba Road and north of Twin Orchard Country Club.
Firefighters on the scene reported a head-on crash off to the side of the road involving a car and a truck with a car fire. The semi-trailer truck was unoccupied and parked on the side of the road.
A patient (Mark Howard) in the car was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The crash was reported to have involved a Vice Presidential visit. According to the Vice President’s schedule, Vice President Joe Biden is in Chicagoland today, Wednesday, October 22, 2014. It is unknown at this time what association the victim or the vehicle had with the Vice Presidential visit.
Vice President Joe Biden’s schedule included a highlight appearance at the Vernon Hills Sullivan Community Center on Aspen Drive beginning today at 1:35 p.m. Biden’s visit was scheduled to rally behind Democratic incumbent Brad Schneider, who is running against Robert Dold.
