St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras and his girlfriend were killed in a car crash while driving to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. His girlfriend Edilia Arvelo was in the car with him when the car crashed into a tree. Taveras’s agent, Brian Mejia, confirmed the 22-year-old’s death.

The crash occurred on the road between the towns of Sosua and Jamao in the province of Puerto Plata.
Oscar Taveras was born in Puerto Plata on June 19, 1992. His major league debut was May 31, 2014. In his first year in the major league playing 162 games with the St Louis Cardinals, his Batting Average was .239 with 3 home runs and 22 RBIs.
