Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:40 AM Sunday to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle near Walmart and Sam’s Club, McHenry Road and Weiland Road Wheeling, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in front of Sam’s Club on McHenry Road in pre-dawn darkness.
The incident involved serious injuries that are reported to have killed the pedestrian. A heavily damaged Wheeling Police Department SUV with front-end damage was on the scene during an extended accident investigation operation. The incident is reported to be a police-involved crash with the pedestrian.

Wheeling firefighter/paramedics transported the police officer that was driving the SUV to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital with a police squad following. However, the pedestrian victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Westbound McHenry Rd was shut down at Lexington Drive. Traffic from Cedar Run Drive traffic was also prohibited from turning westbound onto McHenry Road.
Eastbound traffic on McHenry Road was blocked at Lake Cook Road and at short Aptakisic Road. No left turns were permitted from southbound Weiland Road to eastbound McHenry Road. Sam’s Club and Walmart driveways remained open, except for the driveway in the southeast corner of the parking lot.
The Major Crash Assistance Team responded to the scene, and was involved in the investigation. Aerial photographs were taken from a ladder truck from Wheeling Fire Department.
