Chicago police and fire department paramedics responded about 9:20 p.m. Thursday to the block of 1300 North Cleveland Avenue in Chicago to a report of a gunshot victim. Witness in the area heard six or seven shots fired. Upon arrival they found Devonshay Lofton with a multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back. Lofton was walking down the street when two people rode up on bicycles and opened fire — hitting him in the chest, according to police. He was also reported to have been shot in the back.
He was transported to Level I Trauma Center Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Lofton lived about one block from the crime scene.
Lofton was a member of the Jesse White Tumblers performance team for six years, and was not believed to be affiliated with any gang.
