Plainfield police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:30 a.m. Friday to a report that a girl fell in a hole near a retention pond at 15302 Wallin Drive in Plainfield near Richard Ira Jones Middle School. The girl was jogging during gym class when she stepped on the grating cover of a cement hole near a drainage channel for a retention pond. The girl, age 12, became trapped in the hole, which had about 2 1/2 feet of water at the bottom. A Technical Rescue Team was responding when initial crews were able to rescue the girl. The extra Technical Rescue Team crews were returned.
The girl may have suffered a hand injury, but was safe at ground level by 10:35 a.m.
