Protest over the police shooting, killing of teenager Michael Brown turns to looting.
Police say a police-involved shooting in the Canfield Green apartment complex Saturday afternoon occurred over a struggle for a police officer’s weapon. However, at least one witness says a police officer shot Michael Brown as he held his hands up. His body was left face down in the middle of the street. The police officer — a six-year veteran — has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Looting was reported overnight after a vigil for the teen. Reports of shots fired at a Walmart, and a report of a convenience store set on fire occurred after protest for the killing of unarmed teen Michael Brown.
Some people prayed and held postesr, but others reacted with violence — mainly in the area of West Florissant Avenue. Traffic was blocked by protesters, looting was reported at a QuikTrip at 9420 West Florissant Avenue about 9 p.m. and then more businesses were attacked predominantly along West Florissant Avenue. A large fire was report at West Florissant and Northwinds Estates Drive, and a person was reported to have been beaten at West Florissant and Chambers.
There was also a report of a gang of men armed with guns breaking into stores. Police from multiple municipalities and counties responded to assist Ferguson police officers.
Angry protesters marched to the front door of the Ferguson, Missouri, police department and demanded answers after a teen was shot and killed by an officer. The local branch of the NAACP is calling for an FBI investigation. KMOV-TV’s Julian Johnson reports.
